Von Bio

Von Bieker plays indie folk that haunts your heart with small stories and big questions. Mostly.

His recent singles have brought explosive growth, with We Don’t Even Fight Anymore gaining 10,000 Spotify streams in its first month. Asheville was featured on the Exclaim Eh? national playlist and charted in Ontario’s Radio Western Top Ten. Von Bieker’s debut album Long For This World reached #3 on the CKUA Top 30. His full-length follow-up, DUMB HOPE, releases in June 2024.

Von Bieker’s thoughtful lyrics and emotional performance have landed him on stages with the likes of Anna Tivel, Jon Bryant, Joshua Hyslop and Jordan Klassen. He was selected for Canada’s Music Incubator at the National Music Centre in 2022. He’s received radio airplay across Canada including CBC, CFUV, CFCR, CJSR, CKUA and been featured in several music publications including Bandcamp Daily, Adobe and Teardrops, Canadian BeatsCheers To The Vikings, Chillfiltr, MesmerizedSinusoidalMystic Sons and Indie Music Flix.

A Von Bieker song wrestles between hope and despair; love and fear; faith and doubt. Gentle folk crooning meets a raw and honest howl in Von Bieker’s cinematic soundscape. His songwriting awarded him a 2022 Songwriting Scholarship from Seattle-based Image Journal.

Von Bieker draws from a powerhouse of influences, from the guitar-driven groove of Bahamas to the spiritual depth of Bruce Cockburn – from the breaking-point passion of Glen Hansard to the the quirky joy of the Talking Heads.

Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Von Bieker frequently plays solo and with his band, Von Bieker and his Small-Tones.

Press and Praise

“These songs have held my heart together in difficult times”

Tania Runyan, poet and author of “What Will Soon Take Place”

“These are tight, incredibly well-played songs with introspective, often sad, lyrics. Musically, Bieker—assisted by producer/engineer Harry Gregg—knows precisely when to allow simplicity to carry a song, using minimal percussion, a guitar, and his own voice (a pleasant, versatile voice reminiscent at times of Tom Petty). He also knows when to add in other sounds, like strings, an organ, or an incredibly talented and well-placed horn section.”.

Robert Newsome, Bandcamp Navigator

“We got stuck singing this song long after it’s over. The minute we heard Bieker’s voice we fall in love with it and we couldn’t get it out of our heads! He has one of the best and most charming voices we’ve ever heard..”

Cheers To The Vikings

“Von Bieker is one of those extraordinary artists who just does not come along every day. His songwriting is world-class, and his live performance engages the audience immediately”

– Kennedy Jensen, Executive director, Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta

“On Will You still Love Me? Von Bieker gives vent to all of his insecurities. But, because it’s Von Bieker, he approaches it with his characteristic sweetness and effortless cool. The EP is a fine example of pop at its best: each song pulls you in to its irresistible hooks, pulling you in to their individual tides and gently washing you up on the beach until the next one. “
