It is easy to talk about god

when god is an idea

like deciding where to take vacation

or what kind of pillow gives the best support

 

Even better, let us talk about god

as theory, abstract

floating fleshless like relativity

or the first particle that ever was

 

It is harder to talk about god  

as a thing  

that can be touched and tasted

stretched and broken like brittle taffy in the cold

 

Let us venture the impossible

 

Let us try to speak of God

as a person

Who is form and feeling

Who has a gender or even harder who transcends every label 

 

Let us work to talk about a God

who talks back
